GONE? was written in response to the loss of someone deeply important to me and documents my first experience of navigating grief. Rather than attempting to tell a single story, the work captures the emotional uncertainty that follows loss through moments of disbelief, longing, reflection and acceptance that rarely unfold in a predictable way. Musical ideas emerge, disappear and return in altered forms, mirroring the way memories can unexpectedly resurface long after someone is gone.
The piece does not seek to provide answers or resolution. Instead, it embraces the complexity of mourning and the enduring influence that those we love continue to have on our lives.
GONE? is both a deeply personal reflection and an invitation for listeners to connect with their own experiences of loss, reminding us that while absence changes us, the relationships that shape our lives never truly disappear.
